January 29, 2008
By Katie Mclin

Join a gym, check! Get new workout wear, check! Start new diet, check! You have your weight loss plans underway to hit your new years resolutions this year. Your first week goes well and you follow your plans closely.. well except for that lunch out on Thursday.

Its OK because you have a exercise program, check! Fourth week is getting a little easier, your loving your new lifestyle.. except for the 6 beers on Saturday and the late night McDonald’s you got on the way home. But it is only your second week, slips happen right? Sound like you? Maybe things are not going according to “The Plan”. You head to the store to find your weight loss “wonder pill” in hopes to help you get back on track.

You notice a fat loss pill named, Alli™, aimed absorb fat! AHA! With your current eating habits, this looks like the winner! Taking it home, you start it IMMEDIATELY (since you had some fries with your healthy turkey sandwich at lunch), you feel great already! Until you notice that your stomach hurts and your last trip to the bathroom wasn’t pretty.

Glaxo Smith Kline’s Alli™, is the first OTC weight loss pill that is FDA approved for weight loss advocating a “low fat diet”, and “low-intensity exercise” to its consumers. It only works on the enzymes that break down the fat but not carbohydrates and protein.

But research shows, with weight loss also comes the replacement of bad habits with good ones which does not come in a pill. Users are warned that weight loss is a slow process, and it may have side effects such as, “gastrointestinal discomfort” and “oily discharge”. With an average weight loss of seven to 15lbs in studies over 4 months, is it worth it? My vote is save your cash, and discomfort, get professional assistance in making real changes. The new you is there for you to discover!

Increase Caloric Expenditure

November 30, 2007
By Josh Perez

Each pound of lean body mass (muscle) burns 30 to 50 calories per day. Muscle accounts for a large percentage of your body weight. Which is why it’s funny when my clients tell me that they want to lose weight as opposed to fat. Anyone can lose weight, but can you burn off the fat, and keep your muscle.

This is why when you workout, or eat under your normal calorie limit, it’s very important to keep the muscle that you have. If you lose muscle, you will eventually decrease energy expenditure.

Muscle at rest only burns 6 to 12 calories per pound a day, which is another reason to combine resistance exercise, supplementation, cardiorespiratory training, and appropriate meal plans to dramatically increase your metabolism.

A properly nourished body can allow resistance training to keep or increase your muscle by increasing your body’s total calorie-burning capacity. For the goal of fat loss, the ultimate objective is to torque up your energy expenditure with exercise and nutrition.

This will lead to the addition or preservation of muscle so your food intake does not have to be reduced, and energy expenditure can remain high.

How do you know if your getting enough of vitamin C? Well, this is how you know, if your experiencing:

  • Nose Bleeds
  • Anemia
  • Swollen and Painful Joints
  • Gingivitis
  • Bleeding Gums

Getting insufficient amounts of vitamin C will slow down your metabolism. Also, it leads to severe weight gain and reduces your body’s ability to fight infection.

Vitamin C helps your body to grow and repair tissues. It also produces the protein collagen, which is primarily used to make:

  • Scar Tissue
  • Tendons
  • Ligaments
  • Blood Vessels

So I recommend to start eating fruits and vegetable that are high very high in vitamin C! Here are of top fruit products and veggies that high in vitamin C, and refer to My Top Fitness Workout Products Store for more foods and products along with My Top Fitness Product Deals for more savings with fitness and fitness coupon codes.

How Can I Get More Omega-3s Without Eating Fish

October 21, 2007

Look for eggs that are fortified with heart-healthy omega 3 fatty acids , such as the one of the two top products (in my opinion) called Eggland’s Best, and pure omega 3 protein bars . Also, you can look for foods that are labeled with MEG-3, which basically means, they have been fortified with micro-encapsulated fish oil. Trust me, you won’t taste anything!

Additional omega-3′s are available in different varieties of Tropicana OJ. You can pass on other omega-3 products because they contain a weaker form of the fat you get from canola oil, walnuts, and flaxseeds. Also, you need positive fat to burn fat. Omega 3s will help you to burn more fat, and use positive energy, which will ultimately give you a nice lean look to your body. We need the good fats in order to keep a balance in our nutrition, and a strong immune system.

I have listed below the top products and books for omega 3s, and you can find more in Fitness Products – Store, and find more deals in my Fitness Product – Deals.

Diet Drinkers Watch Out!

October 15, 2007
By Josh Perez

Drinking diet sodas may seem like a calorie saver, but in actuality, studies have shown that artificial sweeteners will disrupt the body’s natural ability to count calories. This poses a huge problem when it comes to people trying to burn fat, or feel that they are making a healthier selection. One great product I can recommend that will get your sugar fix without this problem is a Protein Enhanced Drink. We will get into that in a minute, but the downside to drinking diet drinks is as follows.

Your body uses the sweetness in foods or glucose to help keep track of how much you have eaten. When you consistently consume food that contain sugar substitutes, your body quickly realizes that it cannot rely on the sweetness gauge.

The worst thing about this is, when you decide to go for a doughnut, diet soda, or a cinnabon, you will not get the message that your body is full. This leads to more overeating and consuming extra calories which will make you heavier.

The Protein Enhanced Drink will give you a feeling of fullness, and satisfy your hunger cravings. Not to mention, its packed full of protein and branched chain amino acids, which aid in recovery, and give you a huge satisfaction because it is healthy. The Worst Time To Take A Pill

After yesterdays strong training day has you feeling very sore today, but don’t reach for an over-the-counter pain reliever yet. Anti-inflammatories will inhibit your muscle rebuilding process, which could mean you won’t put on quality muscle that will help you burn more calories in the long run.

After taking pain relievers daily for four days prior and eight days after a 24-mile run, athletes experienced no increase in the muscle cells associated with growth and repair. Continue reading “The Worst Time To Take A Pill” »

Glucosamine

September 27, 2007
By Josh Perez

Glucosamine is a wonderful product specifically designed to relief pain. Glucosamine comes in two kinds of forms for ingestion such as powder and tableted.

Glucosamine is first off considered a health enhancing compound, not a performance enhancer, and is better known as glucosamine sulfate (aka chondroitin sulfate).

The main purpose of taking glucosamine is to relieve joint pain primarily from osteoarthritis, and to hasten recovery from connective tissue or joint damage.

Glucosamine is very popular among the 26-45 age range due to it’s recovering properties.

The potential users of glucosamine are people who suffer from osteoarthritis, people with medical supervision, and is used for athletes with mild joint or connective tissue discomfort. Glucosamine should be taken as a dosage of no more than 1,500 mg a day, and for women it should be 1,000 mg dosage.

The best way to take the glucosamine product is through a time released tableted form. The reason why this is, any type of powder or liquid serum form is completely unstable when taken in by the human body and is attacked by our defense system, which destroys it.

Glucosamine is best taken as a tableted form and we maintain 90% of it as opposed to the powder or liquid serum form of being only 10%.
