Eating food today can be very dangerous if we don’t know how to properly cook and prepare our food. The risk of germs, bacteria, and other microorganisms can leave us in the bathroom for a longtime, or perhaps the hospital.
Due to popular demand from my subscribers, I have listed below my 4 smartest food strategies to keeping your kitchen and food, bacteria free.
- #1 Cleanliness- Germs spread easily form one surface to another, so wash all utensils and cutting boards with hot, soapy water after each and every use. Also, be sure to scrub your hands for at least 30 seconds before handling food.
- #2 Chill- If you now your not going to be home within the hour, stash a ice chest in your car to store perishables. Your fridge should be set a 38 degrees F or below, and your freezer at 0 degrees F or below. Defrost your meat and poultry in the fridge, ice cold water, or the microwave.
- #3 Separate- Prevent cross-contamination by placing meat, fish, poultry, fish, and eggs into separate bags at the store. You need to double wrap them to prevent their juices from leaking onto your other foods in the grocery cart and in the fridge.
- #4 Cook- We all know heat kills germs, so use it! Safe temperature’s vary by food. Poultry should be cooked to 165 degrees F, hamburgers to 160 degrees F, and steaks, roasts, and fish to 145 degrees F.
